AHK World Business Outlook — 2026

Business Outlook for Malaysia

The AHK World Business Outlook Survey Fall 2025, conducted among MGCC member companies between 29 September and 17 October 2025, paints a picture of remarkable resilience. Despite persistent global economic volatility, US trade policy turbulence, and geopolitical uncertainty, German companies in Malaysia closed the year with strong confidence and stable foundations heading into 2026.

Steady confidence on the ground. A full 87% of respondents rated their current business situation as "good and satisfactory" — a striking figure given the external headwinds. More tellingly, 90% expect conditions in Malaysia to remain stable or improve in 2026, underscoring the country's reputation as a predictable, policy-consistent market within ASEAN.

Hiring plans reflect real commitment. Nearly half of companies (49%) plan to expand their workforce over the next twelve months, with a further 36% maintaining current staffing levels. Only a small minority foresee reductions — a signal of genuine operational confidence, not merely sentiment.

Investment: measured, not retreating. While the share of companies planning to expand investment has moderated to 28% (from 39% in 2024), nearly half (47%) are holding existing investment levels steady. The message is one of deliberate, not diminished, commitment to Malaysia.

"Stable business conditions, predictable policies, and a strong local ecosystem continue to make Malaysia a reliable and competitive location within ASEAN. Market Entry Enquiries & Engagements

Often the first point of contact for German firms entering Malaysia begins our Market Entry service covering the likes of address lists, business partner search and market research.

In 2025, MGCC received a total of 74 market entry enquiries and engagements across all four quarters — spanning business partner searches, market research, address lists, company verifications, and key account management. Demand was strongest in the sectors of machinery, pharmaceuticals, automotive, food & beverage, and fast-moving consumer goods. Additionally, MGCC provided support to companies on import regulations and HS code classifications.

NRW ASEAN Service Desk & Trade Fairs

NRW ASEAN Service Desk

On 28 May 2025, MGCC launched the NRW ASEAN Service Desk in Kuala Lumpur — a significant new offering that deepens the Chamber's role as a gateway between Southeast Asia and Europe. The event brought together nearly 25 participants, including representatives from key Malaysian agencies and companies from the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) operating in Malaysia, alongside other corporate entities and start-ups.

Through its ASEAN Service Desk in Kuala Lumpur, NRW.Global Business provides companies across Southeast Asia with direct access to expert guidance, market insights, and contacts for business expansion into NRW and the broader European market. North Rhine-Westphalia — Germany's most populous state and home to major industrial and financial hubs — represents a strategically important partner for Malaysian businesses seeking a foothold in Europe.

The Service Desk positions MGCC as the on-the-ground point of contact for NRW-bound inquiries from ASEAN, adding a new dimension to the Chamber's existing market entry and business development services.

Trade fairs

In 2025, the trade fairs represented by MGCC attracted 21 exhibitors and 1,312 visitors. Total exhibition space acquired by exhibitors remained stable, while trade visitor numbers rose significantly — collectively nearly doubling across key fairs, from 402 to 775 visitors, a 93% year-on-year increase. Standout performances were recorded at bau Munich (+141%), IE Expo China (+96%), bau China (+294%), Laser World of Photonics China (+45%), productronica (+42%), Transport Logistic (+31%), and IAA Mobility, which registered 29 visitors from a standing start.

Growth was particularly pronounced at fairs held in China and Germany — the two markets where Malaysia's trade ties run deepest. In China, eased visa arrangements, China's enduring status as Malaysia's largest trading partner, and the drive to strengthen manufacturing and supply chain links encouraged strong participation. In Germany — Malaysia's largest EU trading partner — bilateral trade in machinery, automotive, chemicals, and precision engineering continued to draw Malaysian firms seeking advanced technologies and high-value sourcing opportunities.

People, Culture & Collaboration

At MGCC, collaboration goes beyond departments and job titles. Throughout 2025, we continued investing in initiatives that strengthened our team culture, encouraged cross-functional collaboration, and fostered a more inclusive workplace.

From DEI training sessions with The Heartbased Group to weekly ops meetings introduced by Executive Director Hannes Farlock to improve transparency and teamwork across the organisation, the year was shaped by continuous learning and open communication.

We also closed the year on a high note with an employee training and team-building day organised by the Chamberinas, featuring a SCRUM session, team lunch, and an Escape Room challenge that put our problem-solving and teamwork skills to the test.

Whether through professional development, knowledge-sharing, or simply having fun together, these initiatives reflect the people-first culture that continues to shape Team MGCC.
